/Steve Hill.
Author, Journalist and Consultant.

Digital media and journalism.

I am a digital journalism trainer and media educator who advises universities, trains newsrooms, and writes about the cutting-edge tools redefining how stories are told. My current focus areas include mobile journalism (MoJo), AI in news production, social media verification, and the core editorial ethics essential to modern reporting.

As the former Course Leader for the MA in Multimedia Journalism at the University of Westminster, London, my academic insights are backed by decades of industry experience. With a background deeply rooted in technology journalism, I reported firsthand on the dotcom boom and bust of 1999 to 2000 for The Independent, the Sunday Express, and various trade and consumer websites. More recently, my writing and research have focused heavily on the AI bubble, alongside media ethics and governance.

Before stepping into my senior lecturer role at Westminster University, I taught at Southampton Solent University and worked across several fast-paced newsrooms. My goal is always to translate complex technological shifts—such as the rise of generative AI and shifting social media algorithms—into practical, actionable workflows for working journalists.

Beyond my media and academic career, I am also a trained counsellor and psychotherapist. Melding these two worlds, I provide specialised mental health training and psychological support tailored specifically to the unique, high-pressure environments faced by media professionals.
